With thousands of students graduating every year, the market
has become saturated and it has become quite difficult to get a decent job.
Without proper direction, young professionals don’t know which and how should
they find the jobs according to their caliber and skills. Research shows that
students nowadays lack the connections and guidance to groom their professional
career. Whereas, meeting new people and making connections is the key to being
successful in job search. Here are a few steps you should follow if you want to
find a suitable job:
- The first step is to develop networking tools. Clean up your contact list and talk to every relevant person. Start by talking to people who are in the same profession and can help you with referrals etc. Moreover, think how you would represent yourself and describe yourself in just a few lines. Deliver your ideas across to as many people as possible.
- The next step is to become an extrovert. Make a habit of going to events and meeting new people. Make it your goal to meet and make acquaintance with at least three to four people every week.
- Now as you would know how to present yourself and you have the experience of talking to a number of people, you should start attending networking events. Many professional gatherings are held every other day. Make sure that you register for all the relevant events.
- The last step is a difficult and a tiring one. You should keep in touch of your contacts. It doesn’t mean that you would have to talk to them on regular basis. But you shouldn’t completely cut off too. If someone promised you information or a reference, wait for a few days and then call them for a polite reminder. If you make your social connections strong, there are high chances that you would get a job early.
